A small studio
with a long memory.

Ten years in, we still believe the best creative work comes from tight teams, careful listening, and a real point of view. Here is who we are and how we got here.

Studio 19 team
Our Story

Founded in a garage. Grown on referrals alone.

Studio 19 began in 2014 in a converted garage off Stockton Boulevard. Johnny Hasan — a photographer by trade and a designer by obsession — was tired of watching great briefs get filtered through five layers of account managers before they reached the people actually making the work. He started Studio 19 to prove a simple point: the best creative outcomes come from senior people talking directly to the client.

A decade later, the studio has grown to a tight team of nine — photographers, designers, directors, and producers — but the founding principle is the same. Every project is led by a partner. Every decision is made in the room. And we still take on only as many engagements as we can execute properly, which is far fewer than the market would like us to.

We have never spent a dollar on paid advertising. Every client we have ever worked with came from a personal referral, and we like it that way. It keeps us honest.

What We Believe

Five ideas that guide the work.

01

Craft is not optional

Every frame, every kerning pair, every color decision matters. If it does not, we would not be doing this.

02

Slow is fast

The upfront hours we spend in discovery save weeks of revisions later. A good brief is half the battle.

03

No juniors on your project

Every role on your engagement is filled by a senior specialist. It is why we cost what we cost.

04

Say no often

We turn down more work than we take. It is the only way we can keep the promises we make to the clients we already have.

The Founder

Johnny Hasan

Johnny founded Studio 19 in 2014 after nearly a decade as a working commercial photographer and creative director for lifestyle and fashion brands across California. He built the studio around the belief that meaningful creative outcomes require an unusual amount of trust between client and maker — and that trust is impossible to fake.

He personally directs every engagement Studio 19 takes on, from the first discovery call through final delivery. He is happiest with a camera in his hand, but you are just as likely to catch him in a color-grading session, reviewing a packaging comp, or on the phone with a printer at 9pm making sure a job goes out right.

Outside of the studio, Johnny lives in Elk Grove with his family, teaches a bi-annual workshop at the local community college, and mentors two younger photographers each year through a program he funds himself.
